Who Do You Think You’re Fooling?

March 16, 2009

Reading about Kid Cudi’s claims of his debut album being his last, I’m reminded of Toronto emcee K-OS, who made the same claim after releasing his first album, Exit. Lo and behold, K-OS is still putting out records, his FOURTH is due out later this year. I just don’t get it, personally. I’m sure it’s great for marketing and whatnot, but I still find it  ridiculously pretentious. It’s a shame for artists I actually admire, who carry on with such shenanigans. The same goes for rappers who claim to “retire” only to come out with a handful of new albums after said retirement (yeah, I’m talkin’ to you, Jay-Z!). It’s hard to take an artist seriously when they take themselves so seriously that they believe they can raise their standing as an artist all by themselves. It all just comes off like a severe lacking in humility, in my opinion. Let the music speak for itself.
