Looking Back On, And Forward To Nikita

June 3, 2010

While I’ll probably never be able to choose between The Professional (or “Léon” for all you anal-retentive purists!) and The Fifth Element, as to which is my favorite Luc Besson movie, it seems his most enduring contribution to the world of pop culture will forever be his sexy spy thriller, La Femme Nikita (or just “Nikita” for all you anal-retentive purists!). Twenty years later, there’s still a demand for beautiful, highly trained women who refuse to be pawns in international spy games. Even J.J. Abrams’ Alias owes a good deal of credit to Nikita. Not only are we getting a new series based on the Besson film, but even ABC wants to remake the series that put Jennifer Garner on the map. So if you’ll indulge me, I’d like to take a look back at Nikita in all her forms and iterations. Read the rest of this entry ?

Heroes: A Eulogy

May 17, 2010

Hello Everyone,

I stand before you, a once faithful friend and companion to Heroes. I remember when we first met, and we hit it off immediately. We learned a lot from each other, and as time went on, I thought things could only get better . . .but then they really didn’t. He still hung out, but nothing was the same after that first year. Dealing with Heroes meant dealing with a lot of baggage; a multitude of unresolved daddy issues, gross lapses in judgment, bad relationship choices, the whole nine. Read the rest of this entry ?

And Like Bond, Christopher Chance Will Return

May 13, 2010

Now, I’ve given FOX a lot of shit in the past. With the exception of Fringe, they’re arguably the worst network for genre programming. It’s not because they put out genre shows that are bad (okay, some of them have kinda sucked), it’s that they never give the good ones a fighting chance. If they put your show on Friday night, you might as well start shopping around your next best idea to other networks! What I do love about FOX is that they’ve managed to build a stable of scripted series that are very unique from one another. There’s not much in terms of overlap when it comes to what each series has to offer. And it’s why a show like Human Target fits so well into their programming schedule, and I’m thrilled to see it getting a second season. Read the rest of this entry ?

Damn, Even Stinkmeaner Thinks You Be Slackin’ Off, Aaron McGruder!

April 30, 2010

I am lovin’ all these promo clips for the new (and final) season of The Boondocks! Nice to know Aaron McGruder is fully aware of all the flack he gets from fans as to the time it takes for new seasons to premiere. Two-year gaps between seasons, muthafucka?!? And I thought Lost fans had it bad!

The Clock Is Running Out For 24

March 29, 2010

“Don’t make me shoot you! (like I need that much of a reason.)”

It had to happen sooner or later, I guess. After a lot of speculation, word finally came down that the current season of 24 would be its last. Ratings had been on the decline for some time, and given the show’s ginormous price tag, it’s just not worth much to Fox to keep it on any longer. Would I have wanted another season of 24? Sure. The show’s run has been career-defining for Kieffer Sutherland, who was always in danger for being remembered solely for his roles as degenerate psychopaths in films like Stand By Me and The Last Boys. Five Things I’m Looking Forward To On Justified

March 12, 2010

Outside of their profoundly annoying commercials declaring that they’ve “got the movies” (yeah, ’cause I REALLY wanna watch The Departed on FX! For the love of puppies. . .), FX has to be one of my favorite networks. This is what FOX used to be in their hey day, diving headlong into the deep end, not giving a rodent’s posterior about how others saw them. With shows like The Shield, Sons of Anarchy, Damages, Nip/Tuck, and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, FX has long since established itself as the network for morally reprehensible sociopaths we all wish we could be, if only we had the minerals! So naturally, I’m very much looking forward to their new series, Justified. Read the rest of this entry ?
